About Stoel Rives and the Energy Development Team

Our Energy Development team consists of over 100 lawyers who provide services to traditional and renewable energy clients. Our services within the team include corporate and industrial energy management, energy finance, energy litigation, and utility solutions. We are nationally recognized for work on projects including solar power, wind power, pipelines, hydropower, natural gas plats, renewable gas facilities, transmission lines and bioenergy projects. We are proud to have led development and financing of close to one-quarter of wind energy production in the United States.

If you are interested in working with a group of collaborative, hard-working, and dedicated lawyers and staff, this is the place for you.

Role Overview

Stoel Rives LLP is seeking an associate with 4 to 6 years of experience to join its nationally recognized energy development practice group in San Diego, California. The ideal candidate has experience in energy transactions, including project development (site control, power purchase agreements, engineering, procurement and construction agreements, supply agreements and/or operations and maintenance agreements), M&A and finance transactions.

Attorneys in this role often interface with colleagues across offices and practice groups and spend time on telephone and video calls with our clients. The associate in this role will independently produce client-ready documents and will work with others on complex transactions.

Skills Needed to Be Effective in This Role

We pride ourselves in forming diverse teams with a wide array of interpersonal and professional attributes. We don’t expect one human to embody all of these skills, but if you have many of these skills, and are enthusiastic to learn, we encourage you to apply.

  • Experience in energy transactions including project development (outlined above);
  • Enjoy the challenge of M&A and finance transactions;
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and desire to understand how a project serves clients goals;
  • A commitment to client service and team success;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced collaborative environment;
  • JD from an accredited university; and
  • Membership in the California Bar.
