Provides employment law expertise for a world-class non-profit academic medical center and affiliated health system. Responsible for managing multiple client relationships with an understanding of and willingness to meet clients’ business goals in a dynamic, team-based, multi-state, corporate legal department. This position is telework and may require intermittent time at one of our Mayo Clinic sites in Phoenix, AZ; Jacksonville, FL; Rochester, MN; or Eau Claire, WI.
Requires eligibility for a license to practice law in Minnesota, Arizona, Florida, or Wisconsin. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience to include advising clients on employment matters in the healthcare industry. Experience in one or more of the following practice areas is preferred: advising human resources, management, and physician leaders regarding employment matters involving physician and allied health staff, including recruitment, hiring and corrective action; credentialing, privileging, and peer review of employed and open medical staff member physicians; drafting and reviewing employment agreements; drafting, reviewing and advising on human resources and medical staff related policies and procedures, including specialized areas such as medical staff bylaws and fair hearing procedures; advising on labor union relations; or advising on employment and related issues in the context of higher education. Will retain and manage outside counsel, participate in staff education and may serve on institutional committees and task forces as needed.
A strong academic background, as well as excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills are required. Must be an effective team player with a commitment to continuous professional improvement. Candidates should have sound legal project management skills and the ability to effectively lead teams, serve as a positive change agent, and delegate work in a fast-paced, team-based environment within a dynamic organization. The ideal candidate will continually seek creative technological, process, and multidisciplinary staffing solutions to deliver client-centered, practical legal counsel.
