Stanford Law School is seeking to hire a Program Director for its https://law.stanford.edu/education/international-and-global-opportunities/global-law-program/#slsnav-overview.

 

You will direct several innovative international programs, help to plan curriculum, write case materials, plan field study courses and law school events for students and faculty interested in international business transactions, litigation, regulation, and public policy.

 

As Program Director, you will work under the general direction of Associate Dean Rob Daines to engage the Stanford Law School community in the legal, economic, business, and regulatory issues important in a world where capital, services and labor frequently cross-national borders. You will help set the program's strategy and long-range plans.

 

You'll help direct and plan the https://law.stanford.edu/education/international-and-global-opportunities/global-law-program/global-quarter/, a new program that offers a group of students (selected in a competitive process) the opportunity to engage in an immersive quarter focused on international business, law and policy. The quarter includes a three weeklong field-study course abroad (prior quarters have focused on Asia and the European Union.) You will help plan the curriculum and case studies for the Global Quarter and organize the field study portion of the program, including organizing meetings with foreign policy makers, lawyers, business leaders and academics. You will oversee the selection of the annual cohort of students (designated as https://law.stanford.edu/education/international-and-global-opportunities/global-law-program/global-quarter/) participating in the Global Quarter.

 

In addition, you will help coordinate https://law.stanford.edu/education/international-and-global-opportunities/global-law-program/the-foundation-course-and-study-trip-offerings/#slsnav-2017-2018-foundation-course-going-global, a faculty visitor program with academics from around the globe, as well as public lectures and workshop events. You will also help plan and teach https://law.stanford.edu/education/international-and-global-opportunities/global-law-program/the-foundation-course-and-study-trip-offerings/#slsnav-2017-2018-foundation-course-going-global.

 

The Program Director will also have demonstrated research and writing ability. You will be a self-starter who is able to work independently on multiple projects with minimal supervision.

 

As Program director you will:

 

  • Plan and oversee the activities of the Global Law Program, including helping to set strategy and long-range plans.

 

  • Oversee and administer research activities for case studies and other curriculum items, particularly for the school's foundational courses on international business transactions, litigation, and regulation. Collect and analyze data, prepare case outlines, problem sets, and field study materials

 

  • Assist in the teaching and administration of courses. Create and/or advise in the development of curriculum. Make recommendations for course improvements.

 

  • Evaluate the Global Law Program, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and coordinating and implementing changes.

 

  • Review and explain trends to determine program effectiveness; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program

 

  • Monitor expenses, budgets, and finances of the program. Make recommendations on funding.

 

  • Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert for the Global Law Program and develop communications for students and faculty about global programming. Organize and/or participate in outreach activities such as events, partnerships, fundraising, training, and conferences. Lead workshops and facilitate meetings.

 

  • Advise students

 

  • May oversee and train student workers.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

 

JD required and two years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Experience in international litigation, arbitration or transactional work is strongly preferred. Program administration and or research experience may be required.

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

 

  • Demonstrated oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.

 

  • Ability to work independently and to oversee and provide basic direction to staff.
