Job Description

Position Title: Deputy Director, Justice Partnership

Position Location: CPD/A has offices in NYC and DC, but for this role, we will consider candidates who live outside our office areas but within the US.

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a Deputy Director of the Justice Partnership project.

About CPD + CPDA

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We work with nearly 50 affiliates in over 30 states and Puerto Rico to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations that envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position

CPD/A is seeking a Deputy Director, Justice Partnership, to partner on strategy and lead on implementation of an initiative to create partnerships between CPD/A, its affiliate network, and the plaintiff bar to advance access to justice as well as, where ethically permissible, generate independent revenue for CPD/A and affiliates through these partnerships. The Deputy Director will support the Director on the vision and strategy for this program and then hold responsibility for working closely with others on staff and throughout the affiliate network to ensure that the strategy stays in line with CPD/A’s institutional priorities and plans for growth. They will ensure that CPD/A’s partnerships advance justice for affiliates while creating litigation-related income for the CPD/A network and affiliates. We are looking for a talented, capable leader, with legal training, to help further develop CPD/A’s relationships to realize those goals.

We estimate that candidates will have about 12 years of relevant experience, but our review of candidates for this role will focus on whether they can fill the needs of the position, not years of experience.

This position will report to the Director of the Justice Partnership program.

  • Build the critical relationships with and interest from CPD/A affiliates required to bring this program to scale.
  • Oversee creation, maintenance and dissemination of training, outreach and evaluation materials and reports, as needed.
  • Support the Director to fundraise for the Justice Partnership program and partner with the Director on overall program strategy.
