Capital One Legal is seeking motivated attorneys for full-time positions in our next class of our Legal Flexpert Program, commencing early 2023 . This program is designed to provide highly talented attorneys who are new to in-house and/or financial services with a wide array of experiences within various groups within the Capital One Legal Department. Over the course of the Flexpert program, the associate will have the opportunity to build working relationships with legal professionals in several different groups within the department, as well as the business groups they support. This is an invaluable experience for an attorney looking to broaden their experiences, their skills, and their knowledge of Capital One and its various legal needs.

The Flexpert program is designed with the expectation that the associate will stay in this role for approximately 2 years, with no firm threshold on either end.

It is expected that the Flexpert associate will support numerous groups during their tenure in the program. Our expectation is that the associate will take on several rotations, each lasting 4-6 months.

The Flexpert program will place attorneys in their rotations based on department needs, carefully considering the attorney’s preferences. The Flexpert attorneys are not expected to have in-depth knowledge of any particular area of law. The assignments will be appropriate for a driven and competent attorney who will be able to learn any specific expertise needed on the job.

During the program, the Legal Department will offer targeted training, mentoring, and development opportunities to the Flexperts to assist them in adapting to Capital One and the Legal Department’s mission and culture. Our Flexpert team is also a community in itself, where attorneys in the program share the experience and learn from and support each other.

After one or more rotations, the Flexpert will be placed in a long-term role within the Legal Department -- either within one of the Flexpert’s previous destinations, or elsewhere within the Legal Department.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide attorney support to various groups across the Legal Department

  • Potential to perform a wide variety of attorney tasks

  • Perform rotations ranging from 4-6 months in duration

  • Understand customer needs and provide appropriate solutions to achieve desired outcome

  • Build relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders

  • Ensure project deliverables and timelines are met

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar

  • At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department and/or government agency. Previous experience in the financial services industry is a plus but not required. Applicants without financial services experience who otherwise meet the criteria are encouraged to apply.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and flexibility to adapt to changing needs

  • Ability and willingness to work as a team player

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
