Sharp Healthcare based in San Diego, California is seeking candidates for the newly created role of Vice President, Labor and Employee Relations, and Employment Law.
Reporting dually to the Chief Human Resources Officer and General Counsel, the Vice President, Labor and Employee Relations, and Employment Law is responsible for providing leadership in the strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of labor and employment efforts that contribute to positive and productive working relationships and a supportive work culture across the organization as well as providing legal counsel to a variety of complex labor and employment matters.
The Vice President, Labor and Employee Relations, and Employment Law is a highly strategic and proactive legal counsel and business partner who is well-versed in labor union organizing activities and labor and employment law. This individual is innovative and someone who identifies solutions that facilitate Sharp Healthcare's employee relations strategy to assure the success and growth of the organization and its affiliates. The Vice President, Labor and Employee Relations, and Employment Law's legal functions are organized to provide both subject matter specialization and specific business legal support in labor and employment matters to best meet the needs of this dynamic healthcare organization.

It is important that the Vice President, Labor and Employee Relations, and Employment Law is viewed as a leader who is credible, visible, and accessible; someone who exhibits high integrity, a willingness to listen effectively and work collaboratively. Working with the Chief Human Resources Officer and General Counsel, this person will constantly be thinking of better ways to operate and how to structure labor union organizing activities as well as grievances, arbitrations and related procedures arising under collective bargaining agreements.
The successful candidate must have excellent academic credentials, a law degree from an ABA accredited school of law, membership in the State Bar of California, or eligibility for admission based on in-house counsel is required, and an outstanding record of achievement with at least ten years of experience in labor relations in the public or private sector, preferably in a large, multi-faceted organization. The base salary range for this position is in the $375,000 - $450,000 range. Additional short- and long-term incentives are also an important part of this package as is a highly competitive relocation assistance program.
