About the Role
The New York Times Company has an opening for an attorney with at least six years’ experience, specializing in the area of licensing and technology transactions, and related data privacy and marketing compliance. This new role will report to the VP & Assistant General Counsel of the commercial legal and business affairs team, providing support across the business/commercial side of the company.
Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including:
Complex technology transactions such as advertising-technology, enterprise, IT, software/SaaS, new media, and audience/platform arrangements, media and marketing service agreements, supporting advertising, marketing, product, technology, data teams, and finance/corporate/HR;
Outbound and inbound intellectual property, data, business-to-business, and technology licensing, and end-user license agreements, providing essential support for The New York Times Licensing Group; experience negotiating government contracts a plus; and other commercial transactional needs, as they arise.
Draft and update consumer-facing online terms and advise on direct to consumer products and transactions;
Advising business clients on transactional data privacy issues and consumer marketing laws; assist with data protection-related transaction overflow; support related compliance efforts.
Providing general compliance advice and training, remain current on legal decisions, statutory changes and industry developments, and advising clients accordingly.
Identify and analyze legal issues, helping determine business terms and structure transactions, and providing advice to colleagues that balances our goals and legal risk.
