Job Description

Positition can be based in O'fallon, Missouri or Irving, Texas

The attorney in this role will provide legal support to the North American Mortgage business of Citigroup. This attorney will be part of a legal team working closely with business management and will focus primarily and be relied on as an expert on critical regulatory and compliance matters including with regard to mortgage and home equity lending product development and implementation. The attorney will also represent the mortgage business in key trade industry groups and review and provide comment on proposed or enacted federal legislative and regulatory changes

The attorney will report to the General Counsel for the U.S. Mortgage business and will interact regularly with senior business and legal management within Citi.


  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Years of Experience (Preferred):At least 15 – 20 years of experience in the practice of law and 10 - 15 years of relevant experience in the mortgage lending industry.
  • A license in good standing to practice law in at least one state
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrably strong writing skills
  • Experience in managing attorneys and paralegals
  • -Experience in working directly with state and federal regulators

Qualified candidates must have extensive experience in federal and state mortgage, consumer credit, and other secured lending laws and regulations, including the provisions of Truth-in-Lending/Regulation Z, RESPA, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act/Regulation B, the Fair Housing Act, the Community Reinvestment Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and UDAAP.  This includes providing legal advice and counsel to senior executives and legal management in connection with the following functions and activities:

  • Mortgage and Home Equity Line of Credit account origination
  • Secured lending product development
  • Digital applications
  • Issue identification and remediation
  • Trade group participation
  • Data security and privacy
  • Policy and procedure review
  • Review and commentary on proposed or enacted federal legislative/regulatory changes Review of policies and procedures
  • Preparation and review of consumer disclosures
  • Drafting formal responses to inquiries from state and federal regulators
