Who we're looking for

Toyota's Regulatory
Department for Toyota Legal One is looking for a passionate
and highly-motivated Managing Counsel,
Cybersecurity.

The primary
responsibility of this role is to provide legal advice to the highest levels of
the organization on legal, regulatory, and reputational cybersecurity matters,
including current and emerging legal and regulatory requirements, compliance,
and cyber litigation and investigations.

Reporting to the Assistant General
Counsel - Regulatory, the person in this role will support the department's
objective to ensure that the company's cybersecurity programs are consistent
with applicable requirements, best practices and standards.

What you'll be doing

  • Primary
    legal advisor to the Toyota Motor North American (TMNA) Chief Information
    Security Officer, Information Security Department, Vehicle Security Team,
    Connected Technologies Department, and relevant areas of the business regarding
    all cyber issues, including current and emerging legal and regulatory
    requirements and best practices, risk assessment and management, incident response,
    government reporting - scope includes traditional system cybersecurity and
    vehicle cybersecurity
  • Responsible
    for continued development and implementation of the cyber compliance program
    and policies, overall cybersecurity governance, and proactive training
  • Works
    collaboratively across the organization to support the cybersecurity program,
    and establishes appropriate relationships with responsible members of affiliate
    companies to ensure coordinated and appropriate responses to incidents, issues,
    and opportunities in the cyber space
  • Participates
    in and provides advice/support to litigation and investigation response teams
    on all cybersecurity-related matters.
    Selects, retains, and manages outside counsel, consultant/experts, and
    relevant professionals
  • Provides
    advice regarding internal and external communications on all
    cybersecurity-related matters
  • Manages non-cyber litigation as
    appropriate, including privacy and other regulatory areas
  • Advises in non-cyber regulatory
    areas as appropriate based on expertise, which may include privacy

What you bring


  • 10+ years of experience as an attorney at a law firm, corporation, and/or government agency, with demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities listed above

  • Significant experience as a cybersecurity attorney

  • Significant experience with development and implementation of cyber compliance programs and policies
  • Law Degree from an accredited law school

  • Active membership in good standing in the bar of at least one U.S. state/jurisdiction

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Team player with the ability to lead and empower teams to proactively solve issues

  • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, including internationally

Added bonus if you have

  • Previous in-house experience highly desirable, including management of outside counsel, experts

  • Experience with class action litigation and/or government enforcement actions

  • Experience advising automotive, consumer products, and/or technology companies
  • Privacy experience

  • Antitrust experience
