Job Description

WittKieffer has been retained by The Ohio State University, located in Columbus, Ohio, to identify the organization's next Deputy General Counsel and Senior Associate Vice President (DGC/SAVP). 

The Ohio State University is among the nation’s leading flagship public research universities and its Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) is one of the largest and most diverse academic medical centers in the country. The DGC/SAVP, as a member of the university’s Office of Legal Affairs (OLA), will report directly to the university’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel with a dotted line reporting structure to the Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of OSUWMC. 

The DGC/SAVP will serve as a leader within OLA and work enterprise-wide with university clients, serving as a legal advisor and providing guidance on all issues related to the academic health enterprise, including business ventures, health care services, scientific research and discovery, and medical education. The DGC/SAVP will also provide legal expertise in health care transactions, ventures, mergers and acquisitions, innovative deal structures, and general business knowledge across the system. This is an exciting opportunity to join a robust and high performing in-house legal team supporting one of the nation's top academic medical centers leading the way in academic research and patient care. 

The ideal candidate will have at least fifteen years of legal experience, including extensive health care law experience gained in-house or through working closely with complex health care clients. Legal experience working with an integrated healthcare delivery system or academic health center is required. Experience working with university legal issues is greatly preferred. Candidates should have excellent academic credentials with a law degree from an ABA accredited school of law. Membership and in good standing with the Supreme Court of the State of Ohio, or eligibility to achieve that standing within one year is required. For more information, please visit
