Mayo Clinic has launched a bold new initiative to expand its reach and help more patients by creatively leveraging data analytics, digital platforms, business partnerships and international relationships. We are seeking an experienced, savvy, solution-oriented privacy attorney who will play a critical role in helping Mayo succeed in this endeavor. This Legal Counsel position will provide legal advice and counsel for a world-class, non-profit, academic medical center and affiliated health care system, joining an existing team specializing in this area. In-depth knowledge of U.S. and European privacy and data protection law is preferred in order to advise on patient privacy regulatory compliance, data privacy and security matters. The ideal candidate will have substantive privacy experience, including experience providing transactional legal advice regarding privacy issues in health care, as well as an ability to compile and analyze regulatory and business information, assess risk strategically, and provide recommendations to help Mayo Clinic achieve its goals. Experience negotiating contracts with vendors, including data protection terms, is preferred. This Legal Counsel position will work collaboratively with sophisticated Risk, Compliance and Information Security Offices. This position will retain and manage outside counsel and lead and participate in teams. A strong academic background, as well as excellent communication and writing skills are required. The candidate must have the ability to manage multiple client relationships, with an understanding of, and willingness to meet, clients’ needs and business goals in a dynamic, team-based, multi-state, corporate legal department.

Qualifications: Requires completion of law school. A minimum of five years of experience advising healthcare clients on data privacy matters as described is preferred. Candidates should have sound legal project management skills and the ability to effectively lead teams, serve as a positive change agent, and delegate work in a fast-paced, team-based environment within a dynamic organization. Resumes must be submitted on-line with a cover letter.
