Job Description

D. E. Shaw Research seeks a highly qualified lawyer to manage and execute legal-related matters for the group. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role that affords the opportunity to help shape our legal and business strategies, and internal best practices and policies.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, negotiating, drafting, and reviewing life sciences and technology licensing and/or collaboration agreements; coordinating intellectual property-related matters; and providing high-level strategic advice.  In-House Counsel at D. E. Shaw Research will work closely with leading scientists and engineers, and will have the opportunity to participate in making groundbreaking contributions in science, technology, and drug discovery.

This position will involve working independently, as well as consulting with and managing external counsel from a variety of practice areas.  Successful candidates will have exceptional writing, communication, and project management skills.  Expertise in life sciences and/or technology licensing and transactions is strongly preferred.  The ideal hire will have demonstrated leadership ability, strong organizational and analytical skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
