The County of Alameda’s Office of the County Counsel, in Oakland, California, is the General Counsel for the County of Alameda, including the Board of Supervisors and all County agencies and departments, certain special districts, boards and commissions. Just as a large company utilizes its in-house counsel, the Office of the County Counsel’s clients rely on the office for the full range of legal services, covering a broad spectrum of practice areas, including employment, personal injury, child welfare, breach of contract, civil rights, taxation, election challenges, probate/conservatorship, and land use, in addition to litigation and oversight of litigation handled by outside counsel. We draft local and statewide legislation, negotiate and draft contracts and other legal agreements, and as the County employs almost 10,000 workers, we have a robust employment law practice.
As public law attorneys, our work covers a wide array of policy matters that significantly affect the health, safety, and well-being of the County’s 1.7 million residents. The Office is committed to providing high quality legal services while working in the dynamic environment of a public entity that is accountable to the diverse communities in Alameda County.
