Join a groundbreaking national initiative using the power of lived experience to fight abortion bans and advance reproductive freedom.   Amplify Legal, a newly launched project of Abortion in America, will develop a new legal strategy centering patients, families, and other people harmed by abortion bans as plaintiffs in litigation and other legal actions challenging abortion bans and other restrictive laws and policies constraining reproductive health, rights, and justice.

Abortion in America is a national effort to lift up the experiences of people affected by post-Roe abortion bans and other restrictive laws. Our core priorities are:

1. Documenting and sharing personal testimonials.

2. Supporting storytellers.

3. Driving change through grassroots organizing, strategic partnerships, and Abortion in America’s litigation arm, Amplify Legal.

The Role

Amplify Legal is seeking a Staff Attorney to work with the Litigation Director to craft and execute Amplify’s legal strategy. The Staff Attorney supports client outreach, litigation strategy, partnerships, onboarding plaintiffs, and case litigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Litigation Director in developing and implementing legal strategy.
  • Execute litigation tasks, including drafting petitions and complaints, motion practice, depositions, discovery, witness prep, appellate briefs, and arguments.
  • Build partnerships with civil rights attorneys, malpractice and personal injury attorneys, and pro bono firms.
  • Oversee legal strategy work done by AIA staff to ensure compliance with confidentiality and legal policies.
  • Participate in client intake and targeted outreach.
  • Represent AIA and Amplify Legal publicly.
  • Participate in client intake and targeted outreach.

 Qualifications

  •  3–5 years of litigation experience in state or federal court; direct services experience preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, including legal and medical terminology.
  • Media experience a plus.
  • Commitment to reproductive justice, abortion access, direct client services, and inclusivity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, MS Office, Slack, Westlaw, PACER.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Compensation

This is a full-time, exempt employee position with a salary of $120,000 to $150,000, depending on experience. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 120 hours vacation, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.

The Staff Attorney reports to the Litigation Director.
